Alice Springs architect wins top national design award
Susan Dugdale from Alice Springs received the industry highest honour for her outstanding contribution to national architecture.
The founder of Susan Dugdale Architects expressed surprise at winning the award after decades of dedicated service to regional areas. She noted she might be the first recipient not coming from a capital city to receive this specific prize.
Her practice opened in 2000 and focuses on thoughtful connections between people, remote places and various cultures across the nation. The jury recognised her work crafting regional structures spanning from arid deserts to tropical rainforests.
The Congress Mparntwe Health Hub in Alice Springs recently took out five Northern Territory level awards for its sustainable design features. This central location brings staff together who previously worked in various scattered locations around the town area.
The building holds the unique distinction of being the sole project in the territory to earn a six star green rating. Achieving this certification after construction means everyone was on board to work hard to reach that specific goal.
