Diagnostic test helps doctors refine prostate cancer care

Researchers at University College London found a diagnostic test could help refine prostate cancer treatment plans for men in Madrid.

A team presented findings from the STAMPEDE clinical trial regarding high-risk localized prostate cancer cases involving hormone therapy abiraterone additions. These results appeared at a major cancer conference held recently in Madrid.

They analyzed Decipher scores from two datasets containing thousands of men to determine which individuals would benefit most. This analysis covered real-world data and randomized trial participants to guide future clinical decisions.

Higher Decipher scores consistently predicted worse outcomes where the risk of distant metastasis increased significantly with every small increase. The molecular test system used calculated these values to guide future clinical decisions for patients facing serious health challenges.

The study leader stated that knowing which patients need extra therapy makes a meaningful difference in their health journey. Men with high-risk disease but low scores might be spared intensive treatment while those with high scores could be prioritized for it now.
