Free nicotine patches now offered to Tasmanian smokers
QuitTas in Tasmania has expanded its free nicotine patch program to all residents aged twelve or older who seek support.
The monthly package worth up to one hundred dollars is available to people contacting QuitTas without serious health conditions. This expansion moves beyond the initial offering that targeted specific priority groups last July.
Previously only certain groups like young people or new parents received these items for free. Now anyone over twelve can access them alongside additional support to overcome cost barriers faced by many locals trying to quit.
Participants will receive the free products over a twelve-week course which allows them to save up to three hundred dollars. Counsellors will call regularly to check if the products are working and ensure successful progress on their journey.
Some conditions like recent surgeries or heart problems may make people ineligible for the free products. However those with complex medical conditions might still access them under general practitioner guidance during this funded period.
“It will definitely help people see a bit clearer when money is not a problem.”
