Man freed baby swan tangled in fishing line

Graham Porter rescued a baby swan caught in fishing gear at the Waterfowl Sanctuary in Godmanchester, England, on October 2.

Porter arrived quickly after an angler called for help while the father swan threatened to attack anyone near the trapped chick. The expert paddled out to reach the family safely in their natural water habitat. He faced large birds with impressive wingspans that could easily harm him during the delicate rescue operation.

The expert carefully maneuvered his boat to create space between the protective parents and the vulnerable cygnet stuck in the line. He clamped a hook found in the bill while gently untangling the fishing line over a short period of time. His calm demeanor kept the aggressive father at bay throughout the entire challenging process.

After three minutes of focused work, Porter released the freed baby back into the water where it reunited with its siblings. The young bird swam happily toward its family, showing that the dangerous situation had been resolved completely without further injury.

The sanctuary regularly handles similar cases where young birds get lost or injured near human activity zones. They operate rehabilitation programs that help these animals recover before releasing them back into the wild to start new lives.
