Fishermen rescue tired kangaroo two miles out at sea
Australian fishermen rescued an exhausted kangaroo swimming two miles from shore near Port Lincoln on October 26, 2026.
Murray and his crew spotted the unusual animal while working on Boston Bay in South Australia. The skipper named Ryan Smith first noticed the animal floating in the water before the team confirmed its identity.
Murray explained that the kangaroo had been swimming for quite some time and appeared very waterlogged from the long journey. The animal looked knackered after the long trip across the open water. The crew provided necessary support to the struggling marsupial during the difficult return trip to land.
The diver cradled the animal gently to keep it calm while it rested on the boat. The return trip took them back to the beach where the creature needed to go. Murray held the animal close to ensure it remained safe and secure throughout the rescue operation.
Even though Murray often sees kangaroos near surf beaches, he never expected to find one so far out. He did not think he would see that in the middle of the bay during his wildest dreams. The calm water conditions likely helped the crew spot the lost animal in time for a successful rescue mission.
“He was pretty knackered, pretty waterlogged.”
