Lawyer receives Senior Advocate title before turning one hundred

P Balasubramanian Menon received a rare Senior Advocate designation from the Kerala High Court just days before his one hundredth birthday.

The Chief Justice announced the formal rank on nine October 2026 to coincide with his upcoming milestone celebration next week. This decision marks a unique moment for a practitioner working in lower courts rather than the High Court itself.

Menon began his legal journey in 1950 at the Madras High Court under Advocate General Kuttikrishnan Menon before returning to Palakkad. He initially handled criminal cases but shifted to civil law after meeting a judge during a trial in Kochi.

Guinness World Records verified his career length at seventy three years and sixty days on eleven September 2023. He surpassed the previous record held by a Gibraltar lawyer whose career stood at seventy years and three hundred eleven days.

The lawyer continues to argue cases daily with enthusiasm despite his advanced age and long years of service. He maintains that clients approach him with trust which guides his professional conduct and brief arguments in court.

“When a party approaches me with a case, he is coming by trusting me.”
