Man returns lost cash to construction worker in Brazil

Pedro Moro spent twelve days searching for a lost worker in southern Brazil before returning the cash.

Moro found the money on August 28th inside a public plaza located in the city of Ibiraçu. He waited for an owner but no one returned to claim the cash that day. Moro took the money home and began asking for help on social media channels immediately.

He visited local businesses by September 3rd to find security camera footage of the specific moment the money fell. One business provided excellent video showing who dropped the cash so Moro could identify the young man.

The young worker Matheus Reginaldo Celestino saw the post on Instagram and contacted Moro to confirm his identity. Moro checked details by asking how many ten, twenty and one hundred reais were in the stack of cash. Celestino confirmed the amount matched his entire monthly salary which he needed for his daughter.

Moro told the Brazilian media outlet UOL that he was happy to find the person and fulfill his duty. Celestino said he had already taken the money for lost but everything worked out in the end. Moro shook hands with Celestino after returning the cash to the rightful owner of the money.

“I had already taken that money for lost. But, thank God, everything worked out”
