Solar project gives clinics energy and work to displaced youth

Displaced young people in Cameroon now protect newborns at maternity wards they equipped with solar energy systems.

Over one hundred maternity wards now benefit from renewable energy thanks to youths trained over the last three years by a local firm. This training program helps displaced people find meaningful work while improving essential health services in their communities.

Ongoing fighting in these regions has choked off job opportunities and made public service failures much worse for many families. Rural communities face severe power deficits and have very restricted access to proper medical care for their mothers and babies.

Mothers often deliver babies without light, and their children risk missing important vaccines because clinics lack reliable electricity. The initiative addresses these threats by installing solar power systems for lighting and preserving vaccines safely in cold storage.

Youths who complete the program receive certificates recognized by the Ministry of Vocational Training and gain direct access to the job market. At least 60% of graduates have already found employment, providing income to support themselves and their families.
